There is finally a plan to fully fund and fix Metro and it costs $500 million. Maryland and Virginia have committed to fund $150 and $154 million respectively, and now the ball is in DC's court. Many people thought we wouldn't get here in 2018, but here we are. And DC officials have the chance to approve the final portion of the first comprehensive funding package for Metro in decades.
However, a few DC Council members are waffling. In a letter they suggest that instead of $178 million, the District should pay $166.6 million, which would be equal shares with the other jurisdictions.
It's not worth blowing up the whole deal over about $11 million a year. Now's not the time to mess with this. We are closer than ever to finally fully funding Metro.
Email your councilmembers today and tell them to get this done.
Make sure DC funds the gap.
